Online Christian Dating Services - Mistakes to Avoid (Part I)An increasing number of Christian singles are using online dating services to try and find a partner. But it is easy to make mistakes. In interviews with Christian Counseling Services, the heads of some leading Christian online dating services warned of some of the mistakes that they encounter. According to Clark S., CEO of Single Christian Network: "Perhaps the biggest mistake is made by jumping in too fast. Sometimes loneliness clouds our thinking. A Christian should use wisdom and prudence. This means checking into things." And he adds: "Take time to really find out about the other person before rushing into things. And of course, the Christian should pray and seek guidance. The same mistakes are made with online dating as are made with meeting other ways." A spokesperson for ChristianMingle notes several common mistakes made by Christians (and others) using online dating services. "A common one is selling yourself short in your profile," says the spokesperson. "You don’t have to summarize your life in one cliché sentence. Your 'About Me' section should be interest-grabbing and unique to you. "Another mistake is posting old photos or not posting a photo at all. The profile photo should be recent (within a year old) and a nice, clear close-up with a friendly smile. "Lastly, one of the worst mistakes to make is the old adage of judging a book by its cover. Be open-minded and give potential matches the benefit of the doubt. You don’t want to pass over a diamond in the rough!" At ChristianDatingForFree.com, a spokesperson, asked about some of the mistakes that people make, replies: "I hate to call them mistakes. Good people shouldn’t in any way be scolded for pre-judging others. "Unfortunately a level of scrutiny must be applied to all budding personal relationships that form online. Christians are open, welcoming and giving people who sometimes need a more heightened awareness of the potential perils that can be encountered online. "So the answer is that some need to unfortunately apply a healthy level of caution before opening their hearts." * See also Online Christian Dating Services - Mistakes to Avoid (Part II) May 12th, 2009 * Martin Roth is the author of the Military Orders series of novels, about a church that has established a new military order to fight for today's persecuted Christians. |
